I haven't myself, would love to but Ive read a few threads on the titans...everyone seemed to love em and the distance of added gallons. What are they running these days? $1500??
I had the titan 50 on my 2012 and loved it, thinking about doing it again on my 2016. Make sure you also buy the titan skid plate as the FX4 one will no longer fit due to the added size. As far as price, I think I paid like $1200 and installed it myself. make sure you go to the dealership and have them calibrate your gas gage so you can take full advantage of the mod and your gas gage will work correctly.
I've got a 80ga aux tank and feed to the OE tank on demand- but I'm still eyeballing that titan 51ga tank to even further the range...
here's the thing... I've got an airdog between both of the tanks and between the tank and the engine... these pumps provide a helluva lot more fuel than the engine needs, which allows the pumps to 'polish' the fuel several times over before the engine actually consumes it. (due to return) clean fuel nailed with a lubricity solution will make a HPFP happy longer. Having more fuel available than it will need (volume) keeps the pump from ever running out of what not only cools it, but lubricates it as well... Not knowing the quality of pump fuel (depending on where you are) is what prompted me to extend my range- having the ability to polish the fuel several times over before launching it to the rail is what (in theory) will keep my fuel systems happy for a long time to come..
51+80 gallons weighs roughly 851#... include the equipment, I'm looking at near #1k ... but my range is over 2200 miles on the highway, or 1700~1800 around town... to me it's worth every cent.
I saw a titan for sale on amazon for $900 the other night and I almost pulled the trigger on it.... the ONLY reason why I haven't is because I hesitate to pop a hole out of a brand new tank for a sump (which is something else I strongly believe in for two very important functions)... but it still may happen..
i personally like the TransferFlow version better and its only around 950 self installed.
it only sticks down about 1/2 to 1 inch below stock tank. The Titan tank is about 2 inches.
I am a big fan of Transfer Flo. I have their 98 gallon aux tank...going on two years now and no problems. In the future, I may look into their stock replacement tank.
I did get the aux tank installed at their facility in Chico, CA. Nice people and nice facility.
I liked the Transfer Flow tank but when I called them they told me I would only get about 44-45 "usable" gallons out of it because of the flat bottom and the way it picks up. I had heard that which is why I called them. So far with my Titan I had no issues getting to a fuel station about 8 miles away after I did the install and only put in 3 gallons at that time. It took just over 47 gallons to fill it and like I said no issues driving to to the station.
I disagree, when I installed the transfer flow 50 gal replacement tank in my 2011 short bed, I only dumped in 5 gal of diesel and drove over 15 miles to fuel station before filling tank. So I believe the last few gallons are usuable. Adding the bigger tank was a big plus, because I get over 1000 miles per tank highway driving. 20-23mpg stock 26 gal tank sucked.
i'm thinking of going with a sidekick or another small aux tank 30 gals or less and doing a gravity self feed. Cheapest option. plus i want to put a shutoff valve and i have a 12v pump i can use to put fuel in the kubota tractor and my diesel gen set.
if anyone has anything like the above for sale, let me know. Would rather help a forum member than amazon.
I think transfer flow and others play it safe because the don't want a lawsuit from a hot shot driver who wiped his injectors and didn't get paid on a load.
Do not need to remove the DEF tank. I have the 50gl one and works great. its worth it for me. The only thing I don't like about the titan tank is the way they ship it. The ship the metal straps that go around the tank inside it. So it is just laying loose and and during transport it rubs frim sliding around inside it and do rub off a little bit of the plastic tank which cause it to have some plastic dust and fuzzies inside. I cleaned mine out good and did change fuel filters sooner as normal after the installation. They had a lot of complaints about it but still ship it this way.
Best upgrade I did on my truck was replace the 26 gallon OEM tank with the Titan 51 gallon. I did the job myself in around 6 hours, and I really took my time. There's a youtube video from a guy who shows the installation step by step, which really helped.
I've had the tank for more than a year now and everything is good except that the vent hose stopped working properly. Watch for that because if the tank doesn't vent properly, it'll actually start to collapse the plastic fuel tank. I messed with the vent hose for a while and gave up, so I ended up drilling a small hole in my fuel cap to provide venting. No problems since then.
