So i've come to realize after driving my gf's 2011 f150 that my brakes really suck.
I have to lay into them to really feel them bite but i highly doubt i could ever lock any of them up even unloaded. Pads all have half life still after putting 20,000 miles on the truck since i got it.
It does pull left or right sometimes when i get on them quickly but almost seems like the rears aren't doing anything.
I'm starting to think that i'm not hard enough on them because this has happened to every truck i've owned (fords). Maybe not enough heat to keep things moving freely?
Agreed, a few weeks back I rear ended someone unfortunately. I had about 3000 pounds in the bed of wax paper for our parrot sanctuary, and with the 37" tires just didn't have the distance to stop. It was at about 10 mph. Anyways was looking at this thread. I'm waiting to hear about the SSBC kit. Not really interested in going 20" wheels to do the willwood kit.
It's getting cold outside, add a cup of anti-freeze to your brake fluid to keep them from freezing up during the winter months! LMAO
I'm assuming you guys have seen those on facebook. One is even a picture of someone who took their car to a shop asking for a cup of anit-freeze to be added because they saw it on Facebook...
I think what i'm looking at is replacing all of my brake lines with stainless steel braided, replacing all of the old brake fluid, and new pads all around. (rotors are great looking and are not warped at all.)
Have you looked at upgraded pads? Like EBC, Hawk, PowerStop........
I've been doing some reading on them. They 'claim' to have better bite, even in colder weather.
Let us know if you find any improvement. I felt the same way about mine and replaced all four rotors and pads with the PowerStop Severe Duty and noticed minimum to zero improvement. Very disappointing money spent since the OEM rotors and pads were in great shape and didn't actually need changing.
