Hey all? I traded my 2012 6.7 in back in June just to change it up a bit. Traded it in on a 15 3500 Cummins MegaCab. Short story, I hate the truck. Once I get through the winter (plowing) I am going to look to get back in a powerstroke. I am looking at the 16s but with the 17s coming out soon I am not sure if it makes sense to wait. I am on the fence with the looks of the new 17 but I said the same thing with the current body style. Any ideas on how much a Lariat Ultimate is going to run? Based on that the loaded up 15 150s cost just as much as a 250/350 6.7 makes me wonder. Anyone else in the same boat?
Exactly why I bought my 2016 a couple weeks ago. I love the body style of the current series and it's proven to be reliable. I actually sold my 2002 7.3L that I swore I'd never get rid of to buy this truck. I couldn't be happier.
I hate to join the "get off my lawn crowd" But I would get the current model. I'm not sure I like the look of the new truck yet either, but that's not the issue. Like was stated above last of a great truck. As I understand the new SD truck will be run the same body (maybe modified) as the 150. Not good imo. I have also heard a few guys complain about towing with the new f150 and it getting "squirrely" towing the same trailer and load these guys towed with their old f150s. Consensus so far seems to be that the weight reduction in the truck made it feel less stable (may not be true but why risk). This is all just what I have seen online. Your mileage may vary.
Yeah, you're 100% on the "get off my lawn" crowd. Saving a few hundred pounds but keeping a functionally similar suspension and frame layout will not make a truck feel squirrelly. I've towed an 8000 pound equipment trailer with almost every incarnation of F150 made in the last two body styles. Aluminum SuperCrew with 6.5' bed, Aluminum SuperCab with 8' bed, old style crew with 5.5' bed and regular cab with 8' bed. In no way are the new trucks any worse for towing than the old ones. If a few hundred pounds made such a difference, you would never even be able to hitch a trailer up to a regular cab, 6.5' bed truck.

How do you figure? A fully loaded F150 Limited with every option ticked is about 61. An F350 XLT 4x4 CCSB with the diesel is 56. And there's a lot more options on the 150 driving up price - twin panel moonroof, active park assists, 360 degree cameras, LED lights, etc. A basic F150 XLT crew cab with the 3.5EB starts at 39K so the price goes up 22K with options to take it to F150 limited status. Not unrealistic to think that once the 2017's are on dealer lots it will cost 22K in options to take it from a 56K base price for an F350 CCSB XLT to something loaded to the gills.
The SuperDuty is an aging platform that hasn't changed much since 1999. I've had my truck for 4 years and the lease is up, I'm ready to embrace the 2017's with open arms and will be placing an order in the spring.
I like the Aux switch placement in the 17s with the 6 switches being by the sunroof controls like a jet. The dual panel sunroof looks pretty awesome too. Also the LED headlights will make you actually be able to see at night too. But like everyone said, the 16 is a proven design and still looks good. It might be the way to fly.
I don't regret purchasing a left over 2015 model and think the 2011-2016 body style looks fantastic! The 2017 will eventually grow on me but I wont be in the market for a new truck for another 8-15 years unless something unexpected happens.
Do you want a great looking Ford or an odd Chevy knock off? The latter is what I think of the new model. Seeing the 17s at the Texas State Fair is actually what inspired me to buy my new F250. The current model has a classic look that will look great for decades. Chevy Silverados never grew on me and I don't expect the new Super Duty will either until it gets a serious cosmetic update to the front end. I'd like some of the Tech coming out, but, I love my new '15 even without it. Plus I got almost $14,000 off of MSRP on my Lariat Ultimate. I can't imagine what the sticker's going to balloon to.
Just go drive an F150 and imagine it sitting higher and being a little longer and riding rougher. Basically the same truck. Kind of sad the era closes on the Super Duty unique cab. I got to poke around in a XLT F150 today as a guy I work with has one as a rental(he got hit in his truck) and while its solid feeling, the interior is at best a slight improvement over the old trucks. I was really bummed out. I hopped back into what has become a very dated interior in my SD and it felt like an upgrade...
I'm just glad(and so is the accountant) i wont be the slightest bit interested in buying the new truck since its basically just going to be a big F150.
IF anyone thinks Sync 3 will be flawless, they are crazy. without a doubt there will be bugs that will need updates as it is launched to the public. I haven't read any issues yet about it but not saying there aren't bugs out there with it. The nice thing about Sync 3 is it being able to connect to your wifi and do the updates on its own.
With the huge price increase of the 2017, I'd get a 2016 personally and pocket a bunch of money.
The thing about Sync 3 vs. Sync 2 is Sync 2 was almost entirely proprietary developed with Microsoft, while Sync 3 is QNX based. This is the base used by Fiat/Dodge/Ram, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari, etc., etc. Think of it as buying a laptop with windows already installed (QNX, Sync 3) vs. buying a laptop where the maker of the laptop custom made the entire operating system from scratch. Updates will come much more frequently and the whole system will be much higher quality.
And while Sync 3 doesn't yet support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the protocols are there and it's sure to be pushed to the head units in later updates. Definitely a matter of when, not if. Waiting for Sync3/QNX was one of the big factors in waiting to purchase a new vehicle for my wife.
The only thing I don't like on the new '17 Super Dutys is the front. It looks like Geordi La Forge from Star Trek. Needles futuristic. But the aftermarket will fix that soon.
I'm quite positive that the new ford superduty will be much more refined than the current model. It will be very interesting to drive a CCLB and see if it has the same hop that I expeirence. The engine is proven, so I think the 1st year will most likely not have mechanical troubles that the guys with the 11's experienced.
I would love to get a new truck, but mine has been so reliable that I'm hesitant.
That's what I hoped for, just put some weight in the bed and my hippie hop goes away.
Considering I have a very expensive suspension kit on my truck I am going to keep it for quite some time.
One thing I do not like, I'm sure that the 17's will have more of is all the stupid nanny controls. Let me drive dam it!
