First time diesel and only owner of 2011 F350 6.7 (35k miles). Have been hearing more and more about general failures for this truck. I have had a leaking upper oil pan as the only real issue. I have not nor will I perform any upgrades or modifications to my truck. I bought it as is for a reason. I wanted a truck that will last for more than a couple hundred thousand miles. I don't need extra power/lift or cosmetics, only efficiency without compromising integrity. I do not tow yet, nor will I need to tow a lot in the future. I went big because I do not want to want for any more of a truck. Out side of simple oil/fuel and filter changes, looking for any and all guidance and recomendations for the sake of longevity and maintaining of this trucks original purchase state. Again, any suggestions/guidance greatly appreciated.
As for the water separator... It is excessive but trust me when I say draining every other Monday is a good idea. The cost of replacing the high pressure fuel system makes the loss in fuel worth it (and if its clean just dump it back in the tank...)
Other than fuel... Maintaining a diesel is not much different than any other vehicle. Change oil, clean fuel, and keep on top of fluids... Also don't floor it when the damn thing is cold. Drive easy for 5 min or so then don't worry about it.
Yup! Any Ford tech will tell you that these trucks a designed to work hard, and running it easy all the time or letting it sit in the garage too much is worse then using it for it's intended purpose.
