Can The (+,-) Button Be Used Without The Lever At "M"?
I am future buyer of a 6.7 and have a question regarding the operation of the +/- button.
Does the lever have to be selected into "M" (manual mode) in order for the the +/- button to function? For example, say you're approaching a really steep hill and you want a bit more engine braking; can you simply hit the "-" portion of the button and it will downshift or do you have to first put the lever down into "M" and then hit the button? On some vehicles that have the +/- feature it will still allow the operation of that button to an extent without having to put the lever into "M", however of course, the transmission will eventually supersede your choice because it is not truly in manual mode if that makes sense.
As mentioned, I am a future buyer of a 6.7, however, have driven standard transmissions all my life because of it like to still have some control over the shifting points. Especially for grades where a standard can often have a lot more engine braking over an automatic where it feels like you're coasting versus the brakes being applied (manual).
