Alternative Oil Additive Options for XL-17 Typewriter Eliminator
As the title says, does anyone know of alternatives to the $33 8oz bottle of XL-17 that eliminates the typewriter noise supposedly? This is what comes in the oil in the truck from the factory and then is removed during oil changes. I mightttt could pay $33 if the bottle lasted for numerous oil changes, but it doesnt and Ford says you have to put an entire bottle in. F that. The damn 8oz bottle costs almost as much as my entire oil change from Walmart.
Second part, I cant believe no one has filed suit against Ford for this issue. I am pretty damn sure that if customers heard the ticking noise when they went for a drive, they wouldn't buy it. So Ford quiets the noise until you have the truck for months and then tell you it's normal and make you buy an additive if you want it to go away (if it doesnt on it's own). So you then have to live with the noise until it goes away, which it may not. Pretty shady IMO....
Also the point they make that the engine is quieter now so that's why you can hear it is BS IMO because gassers make the same noise (mustangs anyone...) so obviously it is some common component. I have read people are pointing to the HPFP (pump).
They also say other dealers have the same issue in their engines...well what part are you all using that is causing the commonality?
Anyway, looking for an alternative to XL-17 that will fix the noise and the rest of the post was just pointing out my opinions....
