Degas coolant level behavior
Had my main radiator replaced back in August due to a leak in the tank crimp. Dealer warned me to watch degas level over the next few days. I had to add about 2 liters of coolant within a few days after it was replaced.
Over the past three months the level has remained pretty level when I check it cold with the exception of two times.
After about 5 weeks I had to add maybe 15 oz. to get the level back to where it was (cold). It stayed like that for another 5 weeks. I checked again today and it was down again maybe 10 oz. I normally check the level at least once a week 'cause I'm paranoid!
I would think if I had a leak the level would consistently drop, not hold for well over a month. Is it normal for coolant to disappear? Could I still have air pockets from three months ago? I have no visible leaks and no smell of coolant. Truck is parked in the garage when I check so it is at the same level.
