Do not use Power Service 911 in these trucks! It is Alcohol based and is death to your HPFP.
Before you start your truck up and it's warmed up. Add some anti gel additive. (Power Service White Bottle, Motorcraft PM-23 or similar) You will need to move the truck around to get the fuel in the tank sloshing around to mix it thoroughly.
When you get the truck started. Let it run for a bit, If it is still extremely cold, You may have to let it run inside the warm building. The fuel system returns all the excess fuel to the tank. This fuel passes over the engine and thru the Fuel cooler. So it will be WARMER than the fuel in the tank and will after a while warm the entire tank of fuel.
Plugging in the truck ONLY warms the coolant. It does not keep the fuel tank or fuel lines warm. Hence the gelling of fuel. Once the truck is running, the returning fuel will keep the tank from gelling up.
Todays an emergency, So you will probably have to pay the price the dealer charges for Fuel Filter changes. But go online (DieselFiltersOnline.com) and buy a spare filter ( probably Oil and Air filters while you are there) You can buy your fuel filters for about $50 and it takes all of 10 minutes to change them out. Use a strap wrench on the frame mounted filter. People have a tendency to break that plastic housing. The engine mounted filter ( On my 2011) just takes a nut driver or screw driver to loosen the clamp and careful look at the hoses to figure out how to get them to disconnect.
I change the Fuel and Air filters every 15,000 miles and change the oil every 7,500. So when I order filters, I get two oil and one air, one fuel and it's about $100 for the entire order with shipping.
