Rusting

Should this rust be normal for 3,000 miles? Its only surface, but it doesn't seem right.

My '04 6.0 looked like that. No problems for 8 years. You can paint it. Just cover any exposed threads with tape first.

Mine looks the same...I'm leaving it alone for now, maybe I'll sand it off and paint it all this summer.

It's steel which was painted with a thin layer of paint that probably pealed off the first time it rained. Bare steel rusts plain and simple. You could do what I did, bolt on four ten pound blocks of marine catholic protection to your frame and body. LOL

These parts were never painted, they are bare metal.

There is no paint on those parts from the factory. They roll off the car carriers looking like that.

I have over 15K miles of Ohio driving and mine doesn't look anywhere near that bad. You might want to investigate this a little more.

Our 2012 looks like that and so does my 2010 and both were under coated. My 2010 is real interesting, they only under coated one side of the drive shaft because they are lazy so as it spins ya go rust, paint rust paint rust paint. Awesome.
