open diff vs elocker vs limited slip
I come from a few decades of running the Detroit TrueTrac so maybe I'm a little spoiled, but I find the elocker/open diff really is unpleasant to drive with.
Seems like any time I try to pull out in traffic all it does is spin the unloaded tire and then traction control takes away the power. Been a few hairy moments where I wanted to cuss that diff.
One of the other users passed on a tip for manual locking which in my ignorance I didn't know (pull the knob out.)
So just for kicks I went out and tried straight line acceleration w/ and w/o the elocker locked (1 wheel drive vs 2.) Obviously with the nature of the elocker engaged, this can only be done in a straight line.
All I can say is 'holy smoke' what a difference in the truck's ability to accelerate. I'd already ordered a TrueTrac for the rear and Detroit elocker for the front, so I already had a good idea what would happen. But trying it was a whole different thing.
Can't wait for the TT to get here and get it in. Going to be soooo much better.
