Air Dam Retrofit

So, there's been a couple threads on here about how massively huge the air dam is on the 2011 4x4's, and I was unhappy about Ford's decision to this so I decided to change it. I had a bumper off my '08 with the shorty air dam on it so I retrofitted it onto my 2011. Here's the pics.

Before:

After removing the old one, it revealed some large steel brackets that hang down with no apparent purpose. So those came off. As far as I can tell, they are there to stop the truck from moving if it comes in contact with a rock or stump, but I'm smarter than that.

Here they are.

After:

The only thing I had to change was drill two additional holes at each end because they didn't quite line up.

What do ya'll think?

I believe those large steel brackets hanging down are there to meet crash saftey requirements for front bumper heights. The goverment doesn't want you parking the front of your truck on any Smart cars.

Maybe that's it. I've called my dealer, and chatted online with Ford Parts and they can't come up with a match to the part number stamped on the side of it. It's AC345C002238 in case anybody has access to their database and some free time.

Do you think I could fit a 2011 dam on my 08? I have the short one and can get a 2011 one.
