Hello all, I have recently(about 6 months ago) bought my first ford diesel. Happens to also be my first diesel. Was just curious if there were any key points that I needed to be aware of on a 2012 Ford F250 SRW 4x4 Crew Cab 6.7l auto. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
I have a 13, in fact this is my second one. First truck was a SRW and now I have a DRW. Either way, amazing engines to me. I still have a monitor to keep track of my water and oil deltas, but that is a habit I picked up with my 07. Keep on top of the maintenance. If there is something particular to watch out for I hope we both learn something.
I change fuel filters every 2 oil changes (total 9-10k for me). It's easy DIY under 10 mins. And drain the water separator every month or so in to an old bucket. Easy preventative maintenance for critical items .
Congrats on the new truck!! I just purchase a 2012 as well. I'm coming from the Cummins world but had a lifted 5.0 before this one. Just missed that diesel power too much!
That being said, I did EXTENSIVE research before buying this truck. The main things that I picked up on seemed to be possible turbo issues (though the earlier models seemed to be the bad ones) and complaints about the way the transmission shifts. Personally, my truck downshifts pretty firm from 3-2 and sometimes has issues deciding what gear it wants to be in during low speed driving (i.e. 20mph or less) but nothing I am concerned about. My dodge shifted the same way and I just chalk it up to being a heavy duty truck with a heavy duty transmission.
Hopefully we both learn some things from this though!!
P.S. Maintenance is a piece of cake on these trucks!!
