Figured I'd start my own build thread so that I can keep track of all the mods I do on this truck for myself as well as anyone that likes to follow or view these types of threads. I wish I had done this with all the mods I did on my 2006 F250 but I failed to really keep a running thread on another forum. Just posted on 'pic threads' and 'what did you do to your truck threads' as I went.
Here was the 2006 when I first got her
And this is what she morphed into right before I traded it in (note, ended up ptm rear bumper, replaced running boards with black ones and ptm front bumper but didn't get a picture of that beforehand )
That don't even show all the mods done under the hood and truck...
So anyhow, here is the 'new to me' used truck when I purchased it...29,500 miles
First mod was to add weather tech liners to the truck...no pic.
Second mod was to add kick protectors to the back of the front seats. I have 2 boys, and they love to put their muddy boots on the back of the seats for some reason...
Got them off Amazon...cheap...
The next mod I made was replaced the factory fuel cap with a lockable cap. Stant 10510D cap.
Front End
Tire Pressure - 80psi
41-3/8" ground to fender edge
Rear End
Tire Pressure - 62psi
43-3/8" ground to fender edge
After:
Front End
Tire Pressure - 80psi
44-7/8" ground to fender edge
Rear End
Tire Pressure - 62psi
44-5/8" ground to fender edge
Replaced the rear 4" blocks with 5" block that came with kit.
3.5" spacer lifted the front.
Kept the stock Rancho shocks for now.
Sway Bar drop brackets
Track Bar Re-position Bracket and Bump Stop drop bracket
Radius Arm drop bracket.
Not happy with not being able to put the plastic ABS clip into the radius arm. Would think they would supply in the kit an extension clip or something. Will have to fab up something myself I suppose.
Install time...5 hours
2 - guys
2 - 3 ton jacks
4 - 6 ton jack stands
hand tools and air tools
Had to adjust the steering wheel a bit after installation but seems to be tracking just fine.
I purchased a Rancho Steering Stabilizer kit but did not install that today. That may go on tomorrow.
Will be shoeing it up with 35x12.5R20 Firestone Destination MTs this coming week. Will update when done.
You can tell you are a little higher on the road now. Coming from a 6" lifted F250...it's still small, but it's all the bigger I want to go on this one...for now, lol. Once I get the MTs on it will fill the wheel well better. Then, once I get the Fuel Hostage 20x10 -12mm wheels, I think it will have the look I'm going for.
Wish I would of kept the OEM wheels on the other truck so I could of done a switcharoo and kept the exact size Fuel wheels I put on it. SMH.
I forgot to add this mod that was done a week ago.
Used ForScan software and BT ELM327 to enable the DPF % screen.
Next on the list, will be spraying the underside with Fluid Film and Installing a Tailgate Assist. Should also be getting the tires installed this week when they come in.
Mind me asking what tailgate assist you went with? The one I have looked at says it wont support the extra weight of the tailgate step. Have you had any issues with yours? Thanks for all the posts. Love it
Tonight, I was successful with re-teaching the TPMS on the tires of my truck. So after the re-teach, I inflated the rears to 80 and fronts to 65 per the door sticker. Previously they were fronts 80 and rears 65 from a tire rotation by previous owner or dealer and they didn't re-teach them.
With that said, used Forscan and set the rear min pressure down to 65psi so I should now be able to drop the psi in the rears without the warning message appearing.
Also enabled daytime running lights, but will have to wait until tomorrow to verify that change works.
Got some slight rubbing on arm at full lock on both sides. Will need to deal with the ABS wire asap before it gets pinched/ripped.
They make some noise on the road, but nothing like the Nitto Grapplers I had on my 6.0L. These are manageable in terms of noise for sure, I can hear me think!
Good to hear, I haven't been able to find too many reviews on the kit. I believe I'll be taking the same steps. Install lift first, then dual steering stabilizer, install 35s, upgrade shocks. As time and money allows of course. Looking forward to following the rest of your build.
There is a clip for the ABS wire right as it comes from the body at the rear of the fender well. You can disconnect it there instead and then reinstall the one on the radius arm.
I did try that. It put too much tension on the ABS wire for my liking. I felt if my suspension would flex down any (drop in a hole or dip), I'd rip the ABS wire at that point.
Do they make extension wire plugs (plug on both ends)?
Purchased the 2wd valence last night. Will install that once it arrives.
Also, looking at adding running board lights that illuminate when unlocked/door opened. I have the plug n play wiring already on the frame rail on each side, just need to figure out the best lighting solution. Was looking at this.
Wow...was finally able to get outside and get something accomplished on the truck today, albeit it was small. Been either raining, snowing, freezing rain, or just down right too cold to make any progress on it her lately.
Replaced the 4wd front valance with the 2wd version. Simple/easy install other than the stupid plastic snap in plugs. Left them out for now...fingers were too darn cold to mess with them anymore.
I like it, but I'll have to remove those 2 brackets that drop off the frame rails in the front. I'm assuming they are part of the 'plow prep package' i have on the truck. As you can see, they drop below the valance now.
4wd Valance
2wd Valance
Oh, and as you may be able to tell, I did remove the red boots from the steering stabilizers.
Next to do when weather cooperates...
AVS Window Vents
ABS Line Brackets on the radius arms
Truck Bed Lighting
High Idle
and when they come in...running board lights
I ripped the two 'Prius Catcher' brackets off when I put on my 2wd valence. Would look terrible leaving them on. And, no they are not related to plow prep package. The are in lieu of the Blocking Beam that the older Super Duty's had. Supposed to push small cars out of the way in the event of an accident, versus the truck running up on them.
Went ahead and installed the window vents. was going to hold off until Monday when it is supposed to be warmer, but I'm impatient and bored. Used a heat gun to warm things up. I've always had these on any of my trucks in the past, and I tell you what, I've missed it so far on this truck.
One thing I did notice...the front windows would auto retract when they got up to the top, assuming they sense the vent (obstruction) and do so for safety reasons. Is there a way to disable this feature? I haven't looked in forscan to see, I did scroll through the dash display and didn't see anything. Was a bit annoying when I was trying to get these installed and seated at first. I finally kept quickly tapping the window button until I got them up where they didn't auto retract.
That's going to be annoying if I need to do this every time in the future...there has got to be a way to defeat this safety. Anyone know?

I would like to know the same thing. Seems to happen when Temps are above 60 for me. Not a problem right now as I'm starring down a full blown blizzard Christmas day.
Took care of my ABS cable issue that I had after installing the ReadyLift 3.5 system. This was on my list, but wasn't at the top of it at the time until I went to turn around and when I put the truck in reverse and locked the wheel, I had lights and noises going off because I ripped the plug apart. Hopefully this corrects it.
Passenger Side
Driver Side
As you can see, I have more wire slack on the driver side now (side that pulled apart) I think due to it being yanked apart. I plugged back in and it all seems to be working just fine with no alarms, bells or whistles.
so decided to hook up these that I've had for about a year now.
They were originally purchased for my 6.0L to install them in the rear for rear lighting but I never got around to doing it.
Anyhow, I decided best location would be to mount them to either side of the hitch.
Punched, pilot hole and drilled the holes for mounting to the hitch.
Roughed them in, adjusted them and then tightened them down.
Decided to not use an upfitter switch for these, so removed some paneling and cut out a hole right under the light switch.
These are relay switched battery power, so that I can use them even if the truck is not on, but, I did not tie into the reverse lights, as I didn't really want them to come on everytime I put the truck into reverse. I would rather like the option to use or not use when in reverse.
Here is another view of them completely installed.
My smoked out cab lights with white LED came in, so those will be installed soon. Will also be receiving interior LEDs shortly as well. Have resistor and potentiometer for the high idle mod. Waiting for a little warmer day to install my running board lights, and waiting on my bed lights to arrive before I begin on that project as well.
Really wish I purchased this truck in the spring time, so I would have had several warm months to do everything I am itching to do!
Since you have upfitter switches, would love to check back & see the simplest way to accomplish the high idle mod is. I know there's extra steps for the guys who don't have the upfitter switches
From my understanding and from what I recall, you locate the upfitter switch wire of your choosing, and then you locate the high idle wire under the dash, and connect them together using a resistor value of choice (determines the rpm in which you want it to idle at). You can hook up a potentiometer to the circuit so that you don't drop below your low idle speed (resistor mentioned before) but can increase the idle speed up from there if you want.
going to follow this when I go about with this mod
Also went and switched out my interior bulbs with LEDs as well. Superbrightled.com One note though...I was told I needed 4 of the Map Light bulb 906 and 1 Dome bulb 578. In fact, all 3 of the rear bulbs take a Dome 578, so I'll need to order 2 more of them.
Here is before with factory bulbs
After with LEDs
Major improvement...don't think the pictures do it justice.
looks good, i'm doing the same light upgrades. Do you have pics of the mirror side lights cleaned up i.e. no salt? Thanks, your truck is coming along nicely!!
Sorry, unfortunately at this moment I do not, but I do intend to spray the truck down tomorrow to get this salt off of it, so I can post a pic then for ya.
I just placed my order through No Limit Fab TODAY. She's going to be dropping a few pounds here in the near future! EGR block plates, 4" Flo-Pro DP back (no muffler), Tyrant tune package for SCT (through NL) no power/emission off, 50HP, 100HP, 150HP. Will be doing a CAI in the future as well.
Wishing I was not home today sick! Just got a package dropped off and wishing I can tear into it now.
Suppose it will have to wait until another day when I'm feeling better. Probably after my NL Stage 2 Intake arrives! :woot: Yeah, nothing better to do on a day home sick than to order some more goodies from No Limit! Awesome to deal with!
While I have been waiting on this to arrive I have however been contemplating on doing this at this time. I have about 34k miles on the truck so still under warranty. Sort of rolling the dice here. I want to for the life of the truck, but don't want to in case I need to go in for warranty. I don't have a standing relationship with any local ford dealers/service dept. (didn't buy this one from a ford dealership) and it's been 12 years since I have bought a ford from a ford dealership tbh. My best angle is my bro-n-law works in the service dept of a ford dealership. :icon_ford: Not a diesel mechanic, but maybe a good enough 'in' so I won't have to fight tooth and nail for warranty coverage not directly related to what is about to go on.
