Hello to everyone. I just recently purchased my first diesel. Its a 08 f250. The truck has a 3 inch lift and 35s, full 5 inch exhaust with the dpf delete, a h & s mini maxx tuner and a bd intake. My question is what kinda mileage should I be seeing from this and what kinda oil do you recommend. Again totally new to diesels as I came from sports cars. Right now I m averaging about 12 to 13 mpg. Thanks in advance.
Driving conditions and your right foot will be the biggest factors on mileage. Idling isn't a killer but getting 8k lb truck going from a stop is so if you do a lot of city driving, probably around 11-14. If you are just cruising on the Interstate and can keep it below 70 MPH, that will help. On average, 15-18 on the highway. My personal best ever (hand calculate) was 19.5 IIRCs, but I do have a gear jammer which probably helps.
Oil...personally, I only synthetic in mine. Specifically, run Shell Rotella T6 5W-40.
Make sure you read Aggie's sticky in this section. There is a lot of good info on it for newbies.
