Questions for those with aux tank in your bed.
For those of you who have aux tanks in your bed do you leave the valve going to your main tank open all the time? I've haven't been leaving it open but one time over night and came out the next morning with a some puddle of diesel on my driveway. I looked around and it wasn't coming from the fittings I put on the filler neck, but is was actually coming from on top of the main tank. I can't see exactly where is overflowing from but shouldn't the main tank be sealed? Any info would be helpful, and thanks in advance.

I have a cheap setup in my truck (Northern Tool). It's just a valve that gravity feeds to a check valve that's spliced into the filler neck. I always leave the valve closed because I don't trust the check valve to do what it's supposed to do. The check valve has alread hung-up on me a couple of times where I had to tap on it to get the fuel flowing. So with that in mind I don't believe it would shut the fuel off like it should. One of these day I'm going to remove the ball from the check valve, change the 5/16" line to 3/8" and put in an electric valve like judd has. Hopefully that will speed up the transfer and stop me from getting in and out all the time.

I have the RDS aux tank that gravity feeds in to the main. I leave the shut off valve open all the time. I bought a 12 volt 32 GPH fuel pump and put that inline just to speed up the flow rate when I need to. I used the aux power switch on the dash for power.
The switch was accidently turned on when both tanks were full and i put about 20 gallons all over the camper once though. I pinned the switch to my air horn switch so there will be an alarm if it gets turned on with out the pin being removed. |
