Alternator question

So on my way to work this morning the battery light came on. The minimaxx was bouncing between 12v and 11 volts. The alternator started smoking like crazy so I pulled over and shut it off. I guess it has to be alternator right? Has anyone changed an alternator? How bad is it? I got the codes P0625 Generator field/F terminal circuit low and P0703 brake switch B circuit.

Easy peasy. Sounds like your regulator toasted then fried the rest of the alt.

Sounds about right. Have you changed one on a 6.4? I'm hoping its not too bad to change. Also I am thinking I have the 200 amp alternator

Well on Sunday I finally got the alternator put in. It was a PITA just like anything else on these trucks lol. I got the 200 amp alternator from Auto Nation Ford. Truck is back to working like a champ.

I had to replace mine also. I have dual alternators and it was the one on the bottom. Took inner fender out to get to it. It wasn't to bad but still a pita!!!!!!

I have a friend that works on Powerstrokes, Duramaxs, Cummins, etc. I had the same thing happen to my 6.4. Called my buddy said I have beer come over and teach me something. Took the old one out via the passenger side wheel well, new one the same way as the old one came out. Hardest part was getting the belt back on which really wasn't that bad. Start to finish with beer breaks included about an hour worth of work.

Agreed hardest part was getting the stupid belt off. It took me longer than an hour though.
