Ok Dusten I’m sure you have owned both and I guess this makes you some sort of authority on the power stroke. I guess you missed the part of my statement “compared to my 6.0”. So yes I have also owned both and if you were wondering I’ve also spent some time in a 7.3. Now when I said it sucks compared to my 6.0 yes I really meant it. I must agree you are right the ride is much better, and the interior is much nicer. If I wanted a good ride and a nice interior I would have purchased a Cadillac.
I purchased this truck for its towing capabilities. I do not agree with your opinion on the towing capabilities of the 6.4. I have towed a trailer with my 6.0 4 to 5 days a week for the past four years, trailer weighing 7000# plus every trip. So I feel that I can provide you with a pretty good comparison between the two. In my opinion the 6.4 has plenty of power as much or more then my 6.0 had as long as I keep my foot pegged to the floor. The 6.4 seems to work a lot harder just to maintain 55 without towing and while towing my transmission shifts back and forth like I’m driving a gas truck. I’ve yet to see better than 12 mpg in my 6.4. My 6.0 got 15 to 16 mpg every tank while towing and around town, it got 18 to 20 highway. The 6.0 also seemed to tow effortlessly and maintained 65 without standing on the pedal. Now I’m losing 96 miles per 32 gallons of diesel but I do have a 38 gallon tank now I guess thas was to make up for the lost MPG.
Now once again you’re right the 6.0 did have its leaking problems and the EGT issue. My Ford dealer fixed all of them under the warranty. The 6.4 only has a 60000 mile warranty, that sucks also. I’ve been pissed off ever since I traded my 6.0 I should have kept it, like I had planned. I had 116000 miles on it mostly trouble free. It broke down a few weeks ago just quit no start. Then started working again on its own at the dealership Ford tech could not find anything wrong no codes nothing. They charged me 200.00 to tell me there was nothing wrong with it. With all the horror stories I’ve heard about other people’s 6.0s I felt it was time to trade out to a 6.4 before the rash of problems started. Little did I know, it was going to cost me 2000+ a year extra in fuel. I drive 30000 miles a year.
So again Dusten you are correct at least the 6.4 does start for now so I guess you are some sort of authority on the power stroke. Over all I guess it’s ok but I’m not impressed I’m just a little disappointed because I expected better based on the fact that I liked my 6.0 so well.
