I think I have one of the bad ones. Mine is 20mph slower on the same hills with the same trailer than my '05 6.0 and I have been getting 4mpg pulling. I just got it out of the shop for it having 3 quarts of oil too much in it, they found two bad injectors leaking. Maybe now I will have a 6.4 that is as good as everybody else. I have also had three radiators in it. I think I would really like it with a DPF delete. Overall truck is awesome!!!! I am a die-hard Ford guy and I am really glad to see guys having good luck with them!

I've love mine so far. It is by far the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I probably avg. 16-18mpg on the highway and 12-13 around town, not too bad.

You would really like it then, if you hate it now and are thinking about Arsoning it, you would change your mind

I love mine! 17000 miles and NO issues. Raced a Corvette off the line and smoked him ( it was raining, and I did use 4wd, and he did break traction... BUT WHO CARES... I still beat him ).Nothing like a big honkin truck, especially when it's got enough power.

that is really only an issue with a stick...

my 03 was getting 16-18 highway, my 6.4L when stock was getting 15-17 highway, i dont see a huge difference.

learn to post all of this in one post.
Ok Dusten I’m sure you have owned both and I guess this makes you some sort of authority on the power stroke. I guess you missed the part of my statement “compared to my 6.0”. So yes I have also owned both and if you were wondering I’ve also spent some time in a 7.3. Now when I said it sucks compared to my 6.0 yes I really meant it. I must agree you are right the ride is much better, and the interior is much nicer. If I wanted a good ride and a nice interior I would have purchased a Cadillac.

I purchased this truck for its towing capabilities. I do not agree with your opinion on the towing capabilities of the 6.4. I have towed a trailer with my 6.0 4 to 5 days a week for the past four years, trailer weighing 7000# plus every trip. So I feel that I can provide you with a pretty good comparison between the two. In my opinion the 6.4 has plenty of power as much or more then my 6.0 had as long as I keep my foot pegged to the floor. The 6.4 seems to work a lot harder just to maintain 55 without towing and while towing my transmission shifts back and forth like I’m driving a gas truck. I’ve yet to see better than 12 mpg in my 6.4. My 6.0 got 15 to 16 mpg every tank while towing and around town, it got 18 to 20 highway. The 6.0 also seemed to tow effortlessly and maintained 65 without standing on the pedal. Now I’m losing 96 miles per 32 gallons of diesel but I do have a 38 gallon tank now I guess thas was to make up for the lost MPG.

Now once again you’re right the 6.0 did have its leaking problems and the EGT issue. My Ford dealer fixed all of them under the warranty. The 6.4 only has a 60000 mile warranty, that sucks also. I’ve been pissed off ever since I traded my 6.0 I should have kept it, like I had planned. I had 116000 miles on it mostly trouble free. It broke down a few weeks ago just quit no start. Then started working again on its own at the dealership Ford tech could not find anything wrong no codes nothing. They charged me 200.00 to tell me there was nothing wrong with it. With all the horror stories I’ve heard about other people’s 6.0s I felt it was time to trade out to a 6.4 before the rash of problems started. Little did I know, it was going to cost me 2000+ a year extra in fuel. I drive 30000 miles a year.

So again Dusten you are correct at least the 6.4 does start for now so I guess you are some sort of authority on the power stroke. Over all I guess it’s ok but I’m not impressed I’m just a little disappointed because I expected better based on the fact that I liked my 6.0 so well.

O.K. So Dusten's an authority on PowerStroke's and you don't care for your 6.4, does that sum it up?

blueheeler101, I don,t know how many miles you have on your truck yet, but as it loosens up it will get better also. And you could still go the route of modding your truck to get better power and mpgs.

Why yes DRW I do believe that sums it up! I really like my Ford trucks I've had some type of Ford truck in the yard for the past twenty years. To purchase this one and be so disappointed in it just sucks. It just irritates me every time I drive it. My 6.0 pulled my trailer and I didn’t even know it was behind me and this truck feels like you’re dragging an anchor. I don’t know a better way to describe it. So if you have any suggestion I love to hear them.

Dusten seemed to have a condescending tone to his writing so I replied the same (I didn’t say his truck sucked). Maybe my first few posts were a little strong, when asked how do I like my 6.4 I said it sucked in all ways compared to my 6.0. I didn’t lie just answered the question without sugar coating it.

Now if asked how do I like my new 08 truck its great I love the truck but the towing capabilities suck. This is not to say it doesn’t have more power because I feel that it does. But at what cost do I have to go through gain that power if I stand on the pedal the entire time I’m towing it’s not a problem. If wanted to get 9 mpg I could have purchased a International CXT. Anyway Thank You Chris,
