Question 2008 Power adder Restrictions

I was talking to a guy a few days ago thats deep into diesel performance and he informed me that on the 2008 and up diesel trucks you will not be able to add any aftermarket performance parts of any kind on it due to some sort of federal law. and if you do you will have to pay a fine for tampering with the truck in which if it ever goes to the dealership they will be able to tell if any thing has been done to it. I have been trying to find info about this but no luck let me know if any of you guys has heard of such a restriction

i believe it is the magnuson moss warranty act you are talking about. It is an act that protects consumers (us) from having our warranty voided from adding aftermarket accessories. a dealer would have to prove that adding aftermarket accessories ruined the part or parts affected. mufflers, some intakes, and other accessories can not void our warranty. Programmers on the other hand can if you stretch head bolts or burn up your motor.

I have not heard of ANY federal laws about chips, programers, or tuners.....HOWEVER...there are major rumors (i have no comfirmation of them for sure though) that the new 6.4 will have encrypted software that will completely shut down if any attempt to tune it is made. This would be a manufacturer failsafe to prevent them from having to deal with anything to do with the moss magnuson act. If they prevent the tuning, they prevent the potential problem. There is no provision within the moss magnisun act to prevent them from stopping aftermarket computer modifications....

This means that it will take the aftermarket considerably longer to come out with stuff for these trucks....but bet your last dollar they will figure it out.....
