leaky water separator help please

Went to drain my water separator now its leaking near the lever. I did some research Ford sells a replacement kit but most likely the problem is just the o ring. I'm out in the bush at work and don't feel like making a trip in to town and we have a o ring kit on site. When I pull this plate off will I just lose whatever fuel is in the filter housing. Should I just go in and get the kit or does anyone know from experience if its usually the o ring.

I guessing you may have air available. Id try blowing the dirt away from the lever and make sure its completely closed. Only fuel will come out when you take the plate off, but it may not stop dripping. Ive never tried to repair it, we usually just replace the cover. But you are in the bush, so do what you have to do so you dont get stranded.

I opened up the fuel water separator on both of my 6.4s to clean them out. Lots of crap in there. I'd suggest getting a new seal and go from there. Fairly quick job, but worth doing. I did mine in conjunction with fuel filter replacements, so yes you'll get some fuel draining out when you do it.

Its coming from the lever its just seeping. The lift pump itself if fairly new I replaced it a year and a half ago. I drain it monthly. I think I'll take it apart and see what's going on
