Opinions on Purchase

Hi Guys,

I am looking at a 08 6.4 to potentially purchase.
Current owner is #2 with 258,000km's (Canada) and has purchased a new Ram. Mini maxx tunes, pretty sure its been deleted (DFP). I'm 6 hrs away from this truck and trying to put the deal together via email.
He is admittedly not very mechanical and has been very honest so far and told me that from time to time it blows a little white smoke. No leaks that he can see. Said it was doing this last year and mechanics diagnosis was a bad injector. Replaced all 4 on one bank and that seemed to take care of it for a while but now a little smoke again.
Talking with him today he mentioned that the weather has gotten cooler and when he started it this morning it was a little rough. Cleared right up, but he wanted to tell me.
Im thinking CAC moisture maybe, and maybe an EGR delete would help as I believe the Mini MAxx can and does disable this.
Still trying to have a member pull Oasis for me but want your thoughts before I jump in a plane to go see it.
Price we have negotiated is very good so Im willing to do a little work. Truck is 08 F350 FX4 CCSB, 4" lift, tires and wheels, full load ect..
Let me know your thoughts please!

Personally I'd be leary of buying it if it's deleted and blowing white smoke. Do you have the link to the truck just so we could see it?

Yes for sure

**QUICK SALE**- F-350 FX4 LEATHER!! - Alberta Cars For Sale - Kijiji Alberta Canada.

Im feeling cautious about it too, as the more I read it may be an injector issue. Not that that would be the end of the world, but if something is wiping out injectors then the pump may be next.. wish it was closer to me but that's the reality of it.
Thanks for your feedback

Yeah it's kind of risky buying a used vehicle when it's running properly nevermind one that you know has some sort of issue. Tough call I guess but myself, I would probably stay away unless you could find out exactly what the problem is prior to purchasing it. At least that way you would know if it has potential to become very expensive with repairs. One thing to check into would be the engine hours aas compared to the kms. How long has he had it for and how many kms has he put on?

I should add that I don't think it has egr delete, but possibly the DFP. Hoping to have the seller shoot some photos from under the truck and then I can verify DFP.
The fact that he had injectors replaces a year ago for similar symptoms is ringing my bell, but at the same time I cant help but think an egr cooler may be shot or CAC issue.

He has had it a few years, running back and forth from Calgary to Vancouver. Not worked very hard by the sounds of it. Seller has been very honest and cooperative but is not mechanically minded

Yes, H&S Mini Maxx tuned. He sent me a video of the truck running and I verified its has been installed. Truck sounded great at idle and no smoke at all

I'm in Calgary. I'm by no means a mechanic but if you want me to take a look at it, I can do that for you. I'm also bringing my truck to the dealership Friday and I can most likely get you an Oasis report on it too.
