Lower fuel filter only half used?

Ok, here's a new one.

I was changing my fuel filters today as they were overdue, did the top filter and while dirty it looked normal, then I changed my lower fuel filter and when I pulled it out, it only looked half used. Half of it was almost as clean as the new one, while the other half was very dirty. IIRC they are factory ford filters. I always do the purge procedure after a filter change, I empty the water separator often. Any Ideas?

Half and half.....

The dirty half......

The clean half......

I have been informed that is not an OEM filter, and it seems to be missing a weep hole.

That's weird.

I don't use oem filters and haven't ever had that happen.

Did anyone come up with a reasoning? My last filter was half black and half clean... Have been having some weird issues with my truck and wonder if this is tied together somehow

If you aren't using Ford filters then that's why. They have an air bleed hole that the wix (and most others) do not have. The air bubble on the top of the filter will keep it from filtering properly.

This is exactly why we have always said use Motorcraft filters at all cost...
