Did I get ripped off?

My truck lost power steering and power brakes. I took it to this shop because I was out off town and it was the only shop that would look at the truck and get it fixed. The guy said it was a vacuum line that runs to the hydroboost. He charged me $425. Doesn't seem right to me.

If he told you he replaced a vacuum line to the hydro boost then yes you got ripped off. there are only pressure lines from the power steering pump and a drain line to the ps fluid reservoir. No vacuum lines. Now if he actually replaced one of the pressure lines then no, I don't think you got ripped off.

So this guy says he flushed the steering line and the brake lines. And that there was a line that got bent but he was able to repair it. I'm pretty sure I got ripped off.

Was the truck making any noises when you lost the steering and brakes? As stated earlier in the thread if a pressure line was replaced then the cost seems fair (average hourly service rate is $100 and a new line was probably $100-$200 plus fluid...) If it was a belt then it would have light up the dash with battery lights and other items
