Diesel Fuel Conditioners

What are you guys adding to your fuel. OR are you just buying "premium diesel". My mechanic has me turned on to Schaffers branded products. Im sure it will take a few tanks to notice any difference by using regular #2 fuel and adding my own conditioner. So my question is, is there one brand better than the other. On that same line, do companies have different fuels, or do they come from the same refinery/distributor and then each company adds its own conditioners to it. Locally available to me Cenex (Roadmaster), Kwik Trip (WI based), Super America (Speed Way), BP, Holiday, Shell.

I am sure there are plenty of topics on this already if I use the search function, which I will, I just wanted to throw this out there.

Fuel is all pretty much the same. Just the additive packages are different. All of the fuel cos you named above get their fuel from the same location in Eagan MN

Do you work for Gold cross out of Mankato?

I do! I didn't know there was one in Eagan. I was thinking Inver Grove Heights. But that's what I figured. Its just the additives they add. I have heard that Kwik Trip adds Schaffers to their "Premium" line, but I don't think any of the 6 Kiwk Trip stations here have premium'

I use diesel from larger stores when I am on the road and I have always used motorcraft diesel fuel conditioner/performance additive... And then I use the anti-gel in the winter...nice to see some more people around Mankato, I did 4 years out there for college... I also applied to gold cross there as a EMT-B 10 years ago...but couldn't take the job due to my schedule changing on me...

Edit: I also use diesel kleen when the dealer is closed or its just easier...not too concerned one is any better than the other...just looking to disperse water and keep things from getting dry...

I too use Diesel Kleen and in my experience and research Chevron/Texaco consistently has the highest cetane fuel. That's pretty much all I use.

Top Tier fuel stations will have the best gas obviously but may not be the case for diesel.

I fill up at stations that have 5% or less biodiesel. Biodiesel burns to fast and some stations have as much as 15%.

Very happy with Ford Cetane boost.

Did not like the performance/number with Diesel Kleen.

Thanks for the input guys. Im using Schaffers Diesel Treet. Im using that because I like the Schaffers oil and have been using that oil for years in my gas truck and will run it in this one to. I suppose it will take a few tanks before I start noticing any difference like the can says. And I am running BP #2 fuels.

rt hawk, since you went to school here, I am sure you are familiar with Gage Towers @ MSU. They took them down last weekend. It is going to be a parking lot now.
