Manual trans... Regen seems to be different!

hello,
I have an F-450 manaul trans.... I have read what everyone says about their experiences with the regens...

I have 3000 miles on my truck and It didnt go into regen until about 2000 miles.... Then once more for a few minutes recently. I also noticed that there isnt any change in rpm's at idle when it does regen... Must be because of the manual trans and the clutch issue. I am glad, not complaining... Just wondered if anyone else with a handshaker has noticed this?

Oh!!!! and also, this is the big one... Some people have said when the truck goes into regen it doesent boost or the boost goes way down and they dont have any power... when mine went into regen I was towing 20,000 lbs up a steep grade at 55mph running right at 38-39 psi.... Dash said "cleaning exhaust filter" and I didnt have any change in driveablilty. Maybe im lucky? let me know what you guys are experiencing, Please.
-Tim

Hey Chief: I think that's the way it's supposed to work. I'm glad yours is working properly. To be honest, I don't think mine has regenerated more than once since I've owned it. I only have about 2000 miles.

I've got the hand shaker in my truck. I can guarantee you've regened a lot more than you think. Most will not even be noticeable. I just finished a 1100 miles trip towing a 20' goose neck horse trailer and only felt one regen, but I always look at my SCT display and I know for a fact I went through 4.

When it comes to regen during idle, the truck will only raise the rpm's at a complete stop with your foot off the clutch and the brake.

And at some points during regen you will loose power. When I was driving through the hills of NE Texas during regen my boost would hit 35 psi going up the hill and -5 psi coming down, it's was actually a vacuum. It's weird, some gears have great power during regen while others such as 3rd feel like they have no balls at all.

So how do you like the 6-speed in the 450? I was going to get one but decided on the 350 with 3.73 rear gears for mileage. I think I made the right choice, getting 17-20 mpg empty.

i dont notice regen down the road usually, but i get it about every 3-4 hundred miles, around town it seems to spool up a lot faster and have more power in my opinion, some strange noises tho...

I have an early '08 so my dash does not tell me when it is in regen., I can only tell when I am parked. When I am pulling hard it will regen. every time I stop, about 250 miles or so. I think it is good, I want that filter clean so I don't have extra back pressure. Mine is an auto. but we have had some good ZF6 trannys over the years, I guess I am just lazy nowadays! My '08 has about 26,000 miles now and my power and pulling milage are both going up!

I also have a 450 with the manual, and with 2800 miles I think that I have had 2 regens. I was on the highway both times (once empty, once w/ 4k trailer) and was coming up the freeway entrance and on the pedal. I look in the mirror and can't see the cars behind me there's so much smoke. Looked like I blew the motor in a gasser. I pulled over on the shoulder and slowed down looking for something wrong, but when I didn't see anything I kept going. It cleared up both times, but it was definitely unnerving for the cars behind me cuz it looked like they coming up on a Nascar wreck. I'm getting this thing replaced with a 350 and 3.73's tho because I get less than 8 mpg when pulling anything, even when i pull my 6 yard dump trailer (4k) empty. Good luck to you.

That may be true for you, But I constantly moniter my gauges and dash display and I have only had 2 regens... Again, Like I said before, There was not any change in performance or boost pressure like some have claimed. I also do not get Any smoke like others have reported.
The second time it went into regen I arrived at a freinds and I let it idle for a few minutes to cool down before I shut it off, and no clutch, no brake, the rpm never changed... I shut it off. The next time I started up it was not in regen..... I think it is working perfectly.....

I also have a six speed with 9350 on the clock. I only noticed one regen and that was setting with foot off the clutch, brake and throttle at a stop. I can't believe that it has not regen far more than that. When it did, I noticed if you press the clutch, brake or throttle it will turn it off. So with consent pushing of peddles in the city, it must happen during the highway cruises.
