Front valance

What is it's purpose and what's the harm in taking it off?

Are you referring to the blackish-gray plastic piece beneath the bumper? No harm in taking it off. There is a smaller one that Ford switched to if you still want one to cover up some of the front steering components.

It's just to keep the bottom of your truck from getting a ton of bugs and road debris under it. Keeps it a little cleaner. They updated it and it is now about half of the size as the 08s.

main purpose is to help with aerodynamic and for fuel economy. taking it off could possibly lower your mpg's just a tad. but not enough to really matter.

Trucks look a lot better with them off(IMO)...I put a Top Gun Customs front bumper on and tossed that valence away.
