Question on road and off road diesel

hey guys, i have a question regarding on road and off road diesel fuel. a buddy of mine has a construction company and gets the off road fuel for the equipment and where he gets it the signs say its the same(15ppm) as the on road. just wondering if there is anything different about the two besides the red dye? and if it could be run in the new 6.4's?

Yeah, redstroker is right. I have a buddy that owns a fuel company and the only different between the two is the dye. The dye tells that it's offroad fuel which doesn't have the taxes (highway usage taxes) tacked on to it. But, like redstroker said, BIG BUCKS if you get caught. I don't know about the new ones with all that shi**y emission equipment on them if it will mess them up or not, but it is low sulfur fuel. I've heard the fine is like 5 to ten thousand dollars if you get caught

i would not put it in anything that requires ULSD not a good idea..i won't lie i have run it in my 05 with no issues....if you get pulled over any state patrol can dip your tank...have fun it gets expensive...most of the time they dip if you have farm plates (used on farms for there equipment.) just don't get caught...

There are several of the mine trucks here running it in the 6.4. The only difference is they put red dye in what ever fuel you are running. As they previously stated it is for offroad use only because when you buy it they dont add on the road tax. If you get pulled over by the DOT or police and they suspect you are running died fuel on the road they will impound your vehicle, tow it (at your expense), and not give it back until they check it out (pull fuel filter or dip tank). Then they will give you a really steap fine, and put you on the list for regular checks.

And just in case you're thinking about running it, you the dye when burned has a stronger odor than regular diesel fuel so, if you do get pulled over, they could proabably smell it burning before they even checked your tank.
