Pre purchase questions

Morning,
Well i was planning on buying a 6.0 and have read for months, wife did not like the one i picked and decided she liked the 08. ( long story)

So now i am looking at a 08 with 197k.
1. This truck has had the EGR and DPF deletes done. I see a plate from sinister have not looked much past that yet. So anything spacific i should look for??

2 Truck has NO monitor, tuner or anything else inside. Dealer has no clue and think truck needs to be reflashed at ford and then start from scratch. Would a Spartan Diesel Phalanx Flash Console be good?

3 I noticed oil cap was off and i am wondering if that was their answer to the CCV mod.

4 The dual temp control only seems to work on pass side drivers just blows hot, is this a huge or expensive problem to fix.

Have to decide by monday rather i want it or not, Going to put friends Edge CTS on it today and check all codes and info. I assume the CEL is from the delete's

Any info or advice would be great.

i would definately be careful. Does the dealer have proof of head studs installed? buying someone elses toy without the tuner(spartan tuning)is my experience once you set the tune you dont need to have the monitor installed. it could have a slipping tranny to blown head gaskets at least get a second opinion from someone not selling you the truck.

I think from what you have told us about the truck, me personally, I would walk away and keep looking. With fuel prices so high there are a good many of these trucks sitting around.

Re: Pre purchase questions

If the dealer reflashes it without the egr and dpf on the truck im pretty sure it will go into limp mode. If they do reflash it they better have those components on the truck or aftermarket tuner on hand otherwise they will have a truck that will not be sellable at least for their price range

I think I would definitely be walking away from this one. As stated above with fuel prices right now you should easily be able to find a nice clean truck with a lot lower miles and no major question marks. Also if do buy from a dealer make sure you have them pull you an oasis report on the truck. This will tell you any and all service that has been done to the truck by a ford dealer.

Re: Pre purchase questions

Just thought of this. Let them reflash it, see if it runs like crap then if it does give them 10k for a (trashed) truck. Buy a tuner and hope everything else is somewhat good and you are money ahead
