2008 Should I?
I ordered a 2008 F-350 with the 6.4L (4x4, Crew Cab, Long Bed, Dually 4.10 gears), and reading the forum I am having doubts due to the Fule Mileage. I had a 6.0 and the engine blew up (oil pump) at 28,000 miles. I was so mad I went out and bought a Dodge 5.9L and I am getting 20+ MPG (not beer math either). Should I hold my horses or should I switch to the 6.4 with 10 mpg? What you do?

Is Diesel ever going to be cheaper then gasoline? By me Diesel is close to $3.50 a gallon.

Well I own an 08 PSD and am getting 13-14 mpg with only 2500 miles on my truck. I know alot of people are talking about this terrible fuel milage but I can still get 11-12 in town with my foot in it, driving it like I stole it.
I love the way this truck rides and drives, it is way better than my other one. I wouldn't trade back for anything but I also dont have to drive my truck everyday. All the new diesels are getting bad fuel milage compared to what the old ones were getting. |

My Ford 6.0 was under warranty and it was covered. Ford agreed to buying my truck back from me, but was going to sell me a new truck for FULL price. So, I went with the Dodge. I am a one vehicle-guy; this will be my everyday drive to work truck. I do Love Ford, but again everyone says that the poor fuel mileage over shadows the truck. I average 21 mg on my Dodge Cummins but I need a dually ...? Tough Love.

Aside from fuel mileage - choosing the 08 Ford should be based upon what you are doing with the truck. Have you driven one? The chassis underneath any of the 08 Super Duty's is about 2x that of any other truck on the market. Yes, I hate the fuel mileage too, but I can tell you from real experience that pulling around my 28' Pace American loaded at 14,000 lbs that this truck handles it unlike any other truck I've pulled it with. I pulled it with my buddy's 05 2500 duramax, felt like I was on a slide the whole time, rocking and rolling around, hard to keep straight in wind, bad roads, etc. Pulled it once with my buddy's 03 2500 5.9 cummins.. again, all over the place. We race MOPAR's. They're in our blood around here, but their truck suspensions.. well, they just plain suck. I'd be ok with the 5.9 or the 6.7 in my F-250 though.
Bottom line, if you are going to pull serious weights most of the time with the truck, I highly suggest it. Just take a look underneath and compare to other trucks. If you are merely going to use it as a daily driver with some cosmetic or minor performance modifications, then yes, go for something else. It's too much truck for just putzing around. Just my 0.02 cents worth. |
