"check air filter"

this showed up on my dash display yesterday morning. i throttled the truck pretty hard from a green light and this "warning" immediately shows up. i opened up the air cleaner box and looked at the air cleaner. it looks fine so what it is i'm supposed to be "checking"? does it simply mean it's dirty and needs a new one or did i actually break something? i'm still running the factory air box if that makes any difference.

Did you reset the little button on the housing? It's just before the maf/ait sensor..

Put in a new one and check. It may need changed, and u will then be able to tell if it the warning is bogus or not.

when i took it out, it didn't LOOK dirty but that doesn't mean its not restricted enough to cause the sensor to not like how much air it's getting. i'm hoping to drag my feet a bit longer with the factory one because i want to upgrade it before too long.

sure enough, plain as day, there is a big blue button "press to reset"...

i heard a click when i pressed it so i'll see now if it comes back on. if it does, than i'll know my filter needs to be replaced.

thanks guys!

That should be the issue. The filter minder (the gauge with the button you pushed) will max out if you run high boost (sucking in a lot air) with a dirty or even slightly dirty filter.

My filter didn't look too dirty, but I weighed it against a brand new Motorcraft filter and it was, if I remember correctly, about a pound heavier.

It may be your only purpose in life is to serve as a warning for others.

mine used to do it everytime it rained hard and i was on the highway, s&b cai was the first mod. the stock filter is way to expensive to keep changing. when it gets wet its like a paper log.
