Exhaust smell question?

I just did the first oil change after dpf/doc delete, I have 31k on my truck. I notice now that the exhaust has a hint of oil smell now , I also changed from motorcraft to rotella oil, is this smell normal? Thanks guys

It shouldn't smell like oil. Are you sure there wasn't just a little oil spilled when you refilled the crankcase and maybe the wind was just blowing towards the back of the truck?

I dont think I spilled any I notice the smell when I got back from my shop after the oil change

If your dpf delete pipe is new they sometimes have oil on them from manufacturing, might take a while to burn off, otherwise it might just be from the CCV...and the fact nothing is being filtered from the exhaust...keep an eye on the level, might be a sign of a leaking turbo seal also if you start losing oil more and more...but I don't think that is very common in the 6.4...very likely could be nothing...

I have had the exhaust on for probably 2 weeks now, def keep an eye on the oil level tho Im thinking its either ccv or just nothing and being paranoid using a different brand oil haha other then motorcraft lol

Its most likely from your CCV. I wouldnt worry. Rotella is good oil. These forums can make you paranoid about the little things.

OP, you indicated you didn't physically change it? you had a shop do so?

I bet a dollar they spilled oil on the engine when they were swapping filters, and I bet it's that simple..

I do all my own work on my vehicles, mechanic by trade just don't work on diesels. Exactly these forums do make you paranoid about everything since its such a expensive engine and ford is real tight on what they warranty on diesels. Ill keep an eye on the oil level tho, thanks for the help guys as always!

After pulling the oil fill cap when running, i notice it was the same smell as the exhaust has must be the ccv then.
