NEW-B... Looking for best advice
I am brand new to PS forum. I recently purchased my first big boy truck. Its an 08 F-250 Ext Cab. I has 48k on it. I put Nitto Terra Graps on it (295/75/18) just because it needed them. The truck is bone stock to my knowledge and has never major problems. Im far from being a diesel mechanic, but do know some of the basics. From what little ive been reading I am brainless compared to you guys I know this is probably the same song and dance but im not much for the search button. Anyways im looking for some advice on what to do to this beast. I pull a fairly heavy 28' trailer for work, not everyday, but most in the summers. I also have a brand new 8.5' Western V plow being installed. I love the truck, it has great power but like you all know its a fuel hog! Im looking for better milage, sound, and fun factor. Im all ears and hope to get the best set up. I really appreciate it, thanks

Tuner (H&S if you can find one. They have flown off the shelves this week since they announced a pause in manufacturing. Spartan is another.), DPF delete, and intake will get you where you want to be.

i have an 09 and its a beast with just a few basic things that i think are a must.
H&S tuner mini maxx.....5"flopro full exhaust to get rid of DPF...and EGR delete. and while you are at it intake. check the classifieds there are a few posts at a good price for all these things for your year truck. before lift and wheels tires i was getting 20-22 mpg back and forth on the hwy. Thats the lie-o-meter so i normally hand calculate 2 mpg less then the computer. and tons of power! |

Thanks for the input gents.. Yea, i just read all 11 pages of the whole EPA bs with H&S.. Also saw this on their FB page.. Sad really.. If i do get my hand on a mini maxx, what tune or tunes shall I go with?

What do these tuners usually go for? I have a funny feeling the prices on these H&S min maxxs' just shot to the moon!

I ordered an H&S XRT Pro (basically same as the mini-max without gauges and it's cheaper), and I plan on running an Edge Insight CTS for gauges, probably in the mounting pod like this...
![]() I am building a custom center console, so I may integrate it into that instead. Last edited by Alaskan_awd; 11-15-2012 at 07:18 PM. |

You can expect better MPG with a tuner and deletes, but don't think it's going to be a miracle cure.
My truck was already getting decent MPG stock (13-15 city and 15-18 hwy). Now it gets about 15-15.5 city (haven't driven any hwy trips). So, some people get a huge boost, some get small, some get none, and others get worse (heavy right foot). Fun factor with a tuner goes up tremendously though. The 6.4 is not a loud truck even when uncorked. Look for things that make your trailer more aerodynamic to help in economy there. |

I'm not looking to double the milage.. but if a grand could save me 2 grand in fuel cost per year then I'd be happy. I have left a few messages on here for guys selling spartan tuners but no such luck yet

My two cents. If you want to be able to instantly change your HP on the fly then you have to get a a more expensive tuner like the mini maxx. But if you dont care and are planning on running the same tune all the time, then i wouldnt waste the money and just get an XRT Pro or something.
