looking at a 6.4 and need some advice
Hey guys, im pretty new to diesels and ive been looking at the 6.4's for a while. Im supposed to go look at a 08 F250 xlt saturday. The dealer says the motor and exhaust are all stock. Are there any problem areas besides the obvious that i need to be looking for? The truck has 80,000 miles and what looks like 33"s on it with a leveling kit. Any help or advice will be very much appreciated

Not that you can readily see. You'll want an OASIS report for the truck to see if there have been any issues.
You can check for coolant leaks around the EGR, hoses, and radiator end caps. You'll probably need to look at the bottom of the radiator to spot some of the leaks as the coolant runs down and burns off leaving residue. Before starting the truck, open the overflow coolant bottle and check the color and level of the fluid. If it's below the "Cold" mark or dark in color, that could mean you have issues. Look on the underside of the engine at the front and back for oil leaks. Do the same for the transmission. You'll want a service history if possible. 5-7k miles oil changes and 10-12k mile fuel filter changes. Take it for a drive and see if there are any problems with the front end bouncing or vibrating. Ask them to replace front suspension parts if it is. |
