Job 1 External filter delete?

I have a job 1 that is needing a transmission service. Can i delete the external filter and install the job 2+ pan and internal filter? Or is the pickup tube different or anything? Was either going to buy the job 2 lines or just use compression fittings and short piece of tube to go in place of the external filter.
