Battery light on? Confused.

My battery light has been on for the last two days. When I turn the truck to "on" position the volts read 12.2 from mini maxx. When I start it the volts are at 12 then about a minute later or so it jumps right to 14.3-14.5.. But the light remains on. Anyone have any ideas what's up? Or how I can test for potential problems?

Thanks.

Do you have dual batteries? One could be bad.

Also, just because it reads 12+ V doesn't mean it holds that under a load (such as starting an engine). Go get them checked.

Yeah I have two. A friend has a meter we're going to test them.

Is it a load tester? Don't just read the voltage. That doesn't tell you much. Any of the autoparts stores should have a load tester they can hook up to the batteries without having to remove them from the truck.
