changing different instrument cluster

I heard that the mileage for the truck is stored in the instrument cluster, is this true? I was looking at buying a harley one and it supposedly has 34k miles on it. When I plug it in will it show my mileage or the harley cluster one? And will I run into any problems about it being different mileage down the road?

Yes it stores the mileage, I got a new one under warranty and they had to order it with the correct mileage. I drove around for a few days adding miles and when they installed it was back to the miles it was ordered with.
