New to diesel, looking for input - 2008 6.4 KR
Hello all! I've never owned one before but am really digging the idea of owning one. My main purpose is for towing a car to the racetrack but I'm always a strong proponent of having and not needing than needing and not having so tomorrow I am going to look at a 2008 F350 KR with the 6.4.
I've read enough to stay away from the 6.0. Should I get the 6.4? What really is the gas mileage from a plain ole stocker, assuming this one is? I've read on hear about the EGR delete stuff and how that can help with longevity, performance, and gas mileage. I've read that I should get an Oasis report. I do not know what this is but I am assuming it is a service record. Is that any different than the Auto Check/Carfax stuff? Is there anything in particular think I should look at when I go look at the truck in person tomorrow? My first inclination is to go buy a Duramax because I am in the Corvette performance business and I can get GM OEM parts at a good discount but when I saw the KR interior I've been obsessing about it ever since. This is a one owner vehicle and has lived its life in the Houston area. 104K on the clock. Also, I have found a 2003 7.3 Excursion that is interesting me too. Good/Bad? Thanks for any input!!!!

I have alaways been a chevy truck guy and this is my first ford truck. Has been an absolute pleasure to drive, espically with the mods in my sig. I have a brand new EGR delete kit still in the box for sale if you get a 6.4.

Gas milage in stock form sucks, after a dpf delete, tune, and intake my MPG has significantly increased...and yes get an oasis report...

I wouldn't be afraid of the 6.4, didn't have anywhere near the problems the 6.0's had, that being said the job 1's did have a few minor issues, most notably leaking radiators. Pretty sturdy engine.
Gas mileage sucks huge! Hell my truck wont go 50ft on a full tank of gas!! Diesel mileage is somewhat better, stocker depending on gearing driving style etc can vary from about 10-15mpg you will get reports all over the map, Also don't listen to the Avg fuel econ on the dash, its not even close. The EGR delete will help with longevity but it will require a tuner, and while your at it do a DPF delete. There are a number of other things you can do to improve longevity, coolant filter, Engine oil filter, aux fuel filter, EGR delete, DPF delete, 4" downpipe, Cold air intercooler pipe (last two used for reducing EGT's) ETC ETC. Oasis report is basically a dealer service record. Get it from a ford dealer, will include any dealer recalls, repairs, services, ETC ETC. Basically anything done to the truck at a ford dealer. Get both the oasis and Carfax/auto check. Good luck. |

Thanks for the replies! Here is the service record that Carfax has. Looks like the radiator was already replaced! It also looks like the owner took it in for regular service.
I do not know what the Job 1 stuff is but I did read that Job 1 trucks are more unreliable, I think. Seems like a pretty reliable truck to me. I would jump on it. As far as fuel mileage goes. Do the DPF delete and tuner first. EGR delete can come after. EGR delete wont help mileage, DPF delete will.

the 6.4 is a great truck....two buddies have the dmax and there is no difference if reliability, although one of theirs has been in the shop a few times......the 6.4 tuned, is just plain a kick in the *** to drive, i think its faster than my Harley and the wifes 550I.........and the King Ranch is the chit...

Thanks for all the replies!!! What would be a fair price on this truck? I'm thinking I can get it between $26-$27K out the door, maybe less...
