DIY Coolant Filter Idea
Before I attempt to do this next weekend, I want to tap the considerable resource of knowledge that is Powerstroke.org. I plan on using the blocker plates for my EGR system. I also had an idea to run a coolant bypass hose to route coolant out of the EGR coolers. As an adjunct to that idea, I thought about adding an inline coolant filter right there. I should not have to worry about restriction of flow of any kind and it would be considerably less expensive than the kit from Sinister or Dieselsite.
![]() This is the filter mount to use with Wix 24070 coolant filters. Tell me your thoughts on this.... |

I have the idea to run the coolant from this line
![]() Then run it to the filter and then to this line. ![]() There is a space on the firewall which is easily accessible from underneath the truck to mount the filter base. |

Looks like you and me have the same mentality. If you can do something yourself for cheaper, Why not? Good job on your filter. I gave up on mine after seeing how difficult it would be to get to those lines without removing the wheel well and such. I may take a page out of your book and do what you did. Do you have any trouble with backpressure feeding from the heater line to the degas line?
