my degas bottle looks like sheeeet!
should I be concerned? lots of brown caking on the sides and bottom and a light sheen on top of the water. no tarballs as of now. is this a symptom of a problem? was planning to install a coolant filter.
had the radiator replaced at 38k miles. now at 49k miles. no leaks anywhere. egrs still in place. mini max on wild tunes the 400 miles. ![]()

Have you pulled off the cap and gotten some on your finger to see what it is? Looks like it might be oil to me...

I moved it to the General 6.4L Discussion sub-forum for you. I agree that it looks like oil in there. Most likely from a ruptured oil cooler.

So IF I find oil, do you guys think that the dealer will service/diagnose for problems? Kinda thinking they might say they won't until something major happens. Just had the truck in last week for cam and rear seals. |

That is something major if you do find oil.

Do you have a way to monitor ECT vs EOT? If so what's the delta? If it is oil its more than likely a ruptured oil cooler.

for the couple weeks I had the mini max my eot has been no greater than 8* of the ect. My ect has been no higher than 210* standing on the pedal for a very short period.

stuck my finger in there and found the typical coolant sludge. Tried to scrape the darker portions but the walls of the degas bottle wouldn't allow access. the coolant itself looks clear.
![]() this pic is what I could scrape of the darker residue.
