2008 E350 Van w/ bad Motor. Replace with 7.3?
Hi All, newbie here. There is a 2008 E350 van 6.4 with a bad motor - owner says metal shavings were found in sump -bad oil pump/oil pump failure. He wants 2,900.00 as is, there are a few low mileage engines out there for under 2,000.00. Better to replace with same and do the reccommended upgrades before installing or just replace with a 7.3? Project to stay away from or? Body on this cargo van is quite nice. My goal is to turn it into a camper/multipurpose vehicle, possibly add 4 wheel drive later. Thanks!

I believe for licensing purposes you can not put an older year motor in a new year vehicle depending on your state and emissions regulations. You can put a newer model year motor in, but not an older one? Correct me if I am wrong....

Good point - better off buying a van with a 7.3 or buying the 08 Van and doing the right mods to a used 6.4 donor motor? The 6.4 seems like it is a pita!

The 6.4 is a good stong motor. A few mods and it will be bullet proof. I think its worth it to put a 6.4 back in the van. The engine bay can be a little cluttered (especialy on a van) but it really is a good motor.

there are vans that have 6.4s, OP is the $2900 to fix the 6.4 up? I would probably just go that route

Is it a van with a 6.4 or with a gasser?

2008 van being offered at 2900 with bad motor - must be a 6.0 yes? Its an e350 cargo, owner does not know much about this van other than reported metal shavings in oil and bad oil pump -

6.4L was NEVER installed in an E series. They still used the 6.0L.
