Engine stops hard when turning it off?
Im new to diesels so this can be normal but wanted to ask. When turning the truck off the engine seems to make a hard/abrupt stop. My gassers never did this. It dont happen every time, bout half the time. Is this normal?
Thanks. |

A diesel has a very high compression ratio compared to a gas engine. So its normal.

What he said, I know the Cummins especially have it real bad, usually they will get a good squeak outta the belt. Dont be worried, just dont ever beat on it and shut it off right after. Give it 10-15 seconds then shut it off.

This is funny cause I noticed the abrupt stopping noise too. I kind of feel bad for the truck when I shut it off cause of the loud noises but if it's normal oh we'll..
