Does the vin tell you what gear ratio the truck comes with. What were the options from the dealer for that type of truck. 3.73, 4,10, 4.30?

You can use this to get your window sticker which will tell you your gears. There is a way to do it from your door sticker too but I forget what ratios the abbreviations stand for.
