Stock air box ???
I was just outside under the hood getting aquainted with my 6.4, when something caught my eye, it is the 3/4" hose that goes into the stock airbox. It is connected to a black thingamajigger that what looks to me just pulls heat from the back of the motor into the airbox.

I know what you are talking about i pulled mine off and trashed it when i did my CAI. I believe all it does is pull some warm air into the box

that is correct that is what its there for. My S&B has a opening for it and a blank spot for it so in the summer you can put it in the blank and in the winter you can put it in the opening but I just ripped it off too

Yes , rip it off but don't throw it away. From what I understand the airbox gets packed up with snow if your driving in light blowing snow and that hose is there to help melt the snow and could/ would accumulate there.

Yeah, I just put in an afe but I left it. Like the others said for heat, seeing as how cold it gets im leaving mine there for the winter(s).
