Random Rear Brake Drag
I keep getting an odd random drag or hang up problem with my drivers rear brake. It happened once back in august and then again Friday night. I have done a full brake job on the truck since the first time and the problem persists. I cannot feel the drag really but its after a drive I can get out of the truck and smell burnt or hot lining and the rotor is very hot. It has to be either the caliper or the hose.
Anyone else with problems? |

Had the same issue with both my rear calipers but at different times... Got very hot and could smell it burning. Both time the piston in the caliper had self destructed and the broken pieces had wedged in there in a way to keep the pads dragging on the rotor. Luckily calipers are cheap for these trucks once you get your core credit back.

I know on a lot of the GM's when you replace a rear caliper sometimes it will still stick until you replace the line from the caliper to the junction. Not exactly sure why, but I've seen it quite a few times. Might be something to think about trying if you guys are having trouble with new ones sticking.

I just swapped my calipers and everything has been fine since. Just remember to get crush washers for the brake line, the caliper does not come with new ones.

yea, i have had more problems with hoses in my experience than the calipers themselves, unless they were aluminum ones. I guess i just got to change em both to be certain. Thanks guys
