Blown 6.4. Best options?
I bent a push rod and tore up the block in my 6.4. Does anyone have any good ideas for what i can do to fix it. Talked to a guy and he said a short block would be 6700 and 1800 to put it in. Any input will help, thanks in advance.

Ouch, what tune were you running? What were you doing when it happened, e.g. towing, racing?

That's no fun! I want to hear what happened too. All these story's about. 6.4's are starting to scare me....

that sucks, you did a bunch of stuff to prevent the break down.....i think i would total it into a tree.

.....
I bought my truck with 120k miles on it , and all of the rockers are worn out.
I do not know the history of the truck , but it appears to be very well taken care of . I dont see why the maintenance would be neglected. I am taking the steps (so i think) to avoid this happening again . I have purchased a complete 20K engine. OF course doing egr delete , and dpf. |

I was running the spartan 275 and i wasnt doing any hard pulling or anything just getting on from like 40 and around 80 it went to overdrive and about 2 seconds later it blew. The guy working on it said i bent one push rod and that came out the rocker and hung up in the number 3 rocker and then it broke the push rod on that one and when that broke it beat the top of the lifter and all around it so bad that the lifter is stuck in the block. When it goes back together im doing an egr delete, mini max, head studs, and rcd valve springs.

I have read a couple of story's about the rockers and push rods. There seems to be a common thread here.....................RPM. It looks like the 6.4 valve system is not well suited after the 3000 RPM mark.

Judging by your screen name I'm guessing you not a cummins fan, but if my 6.4 were to break beyond repair (block trashed), I would be doing a cummins conversion. A 94-98.5 12 valve would be my first choice.
