Been a diesel owner for a week now--first oil change

It went pretty well! The lift I used was rated for 10000lbs, and it worked pretty hard getting the truck up. Switched to Rotella T6 synthetic. I don't think the oil filter was OEM or Racor. It didn't match the Racor one I ordered from one of our vendors--it looked like a Wix filter I saw on another auto parts site.

Question: I've used these cartridge-type filters before on BMWs, and they always included a crush washer for the drain plug. No crush washer came with this filter...was it supposed to? Do we need to change this washer at every oil change?

Also the little kitchen stool I was standing on to add the oil slipped out from under me and slid across the floor. There I was...hanging on the top of the various radiators...still trying to pour the fresh oil in. Didn't spill a drop!
