6.4 issues and questions before buying
Dealership here in Houston has a 0i8 6.4 with 114k miles. Says he sold it to a guy for 17ka and the guys mechanic said the egr valves were leaking. Question is what other issues could i be faced with? How can i get a ford dealer to inspect it for free? He is asking 13k for it now. Said make him an offer. He doesnt know any thing about diesels. Im thinking bout offering him 10kto but wonder how much id be looking at spendin. Any help i appreciate in advance. The 7.3 and 6.0 havent been good to me at all. Im almost at the point of giving up on ford until i can afford a 6.7 scorpion. Lol

Might be able to get the place selling the truck to pay for it if you put down a deposit on the truck with a stipulation in the contract of purchasing the truck pending a full inspection and the truck checking out with minimal mechanical issues.

The egr valve or the egr coolers? New ford 6.4 motors are not cheap. If it is the coolers leaking you need to pull cab and either upgrade or delete.

Before yo buy it I would get a scanner to watch your eot/ect temps. If there gets to be a 15 degress difference between the two then the oil cooler is becoming clogged and needs to be replaced and if the oil cooler is clogged more then likely the egr cooler needs to be replaced also. If it is just the egr valve get a new valve and do the egr cooler delete and it should be ok as long the delta temps are fine. I would go to the dealer with the vin number to get a oasis report on the vehichle and check the car fax on the vehicle.
