I bought a pump to suck the fluid out of the rear diff. I was trying to aviod pulling the cover. directly behind the fill plug is something blocking the hose from entering the housing. any ideas? or experiences? thanks, dale 2008, f-250, single rear wheels.

Your probably hitting the carrier. Do yourself a favor and just pull the cover. Unthread all the bolts but leave the top one in a few threads, and hit it with a dead blow hammer to break the seal. (the top bolt keeps the cover from falling into the oil you just drained). Inspect and clean everything up good and use RTV to re-seal it back up. Top of with a quality oil and your good to go. You'll never get all the oil out with the tube and you'll have piece of mind visually inspecting things by taking the cover off
