Oil Filter Cap?
Just changed my oil and noticed old filter was missing the 3 prong plastic on top like it had been cut off. New filter didnt want to fit because looks like cap doesnt have recess like fuel filter caps to accept the 3 prong piece. my ? is, Is it possible the cap isnt OEM and had a friend tell me once on his older powerstroke some brands would actually include cap and he wondered if that was my problem.??

Yes some filters come with a cap. I know NAPA filters come with their own cap and I have seen a few others but don't remember brand names. You can get a new cap from dealer if you want to be 100% sure it's correct. I only use motocraft filters to be sure it's the right fit.

I also noticed when I did my oil change last weekend for the first time that the new Motorcraft filter didnt "snap" into the cover like the directions here say it should. Then I saw that the cap said Wix on it!! I was/am a little nervouse about that and will probably get a new cap soon.

I'd get a new Ford cap. The drain valve in the oil filter housing is held closed by the filter when it's installed. If it's the wrong size it may not close completely.
Also, if you need filters, Racor makes the oil and fuel filters for Ford and they can be found for less $$ than the ones with the Ford logo. |
