I am still a ways out from owning one of these trucks but I would love a little more info on these trucks/opinions from true 6.4 owners b/c its a lot better than brochures. Alright long story shorts im not a farmer but do help some on occasion, like pulling and occasional racing. Are these trucks responsive to custom tuners like dmaxes? I own a 01' 7.3 love the truck but tired of getting stomped by these dmaxes which are big around this area but the thing is.... im a FORD guy and dont want to make that kind of stupid switch. Any HP/torque story out there with supported mods. Any other info or tips out there to take into consideration b/c I want all the hp/torque I can get but I want some fuel mileage good to.

I love my 6.4, I don't have any performance mods YET, they will be coming soon though. There are lots of good threads on here about tuners and discussions on horsepower and torque gains (I have been looking to make my choice on a purchase) just search the forum for tuners and a hundred threads will pop up. Tons of information on this thread...

if you get a 6.4 put 1500$ into it with tuner, cold air intake, and dpf/doc delete you will be pushing 600hp and I believe 1200 tq. there is a post in the performance with a guy beating a new model ss camaro so, to answer your question yes you will smoke a dmax. If you have the money these trucks will make huge power, just be careful there not as durable as your 7.3, but thats not saying much you can damn near run rocks through the fuel system and water for oil on a 7.3 and you will be fine, the 6.4's are still great trucks.

I also have not done any performance upgrades but plan to in the future. I am always reading on here and there are A LOT of threads about these trucks and products for them in the performance section of the 6.4 forum. It seems like these trucks are built for power, you gotta take good care of them but if you do and put the right products on (H&S and Spartan for tuners) you can make gobbs of power and if you are not racing it every day you should be able to keep your stock transmission around a while too. There are guys here that have something like 60k on a stock transmission with the 250 hp add tune. Good luck in your search
