Looking at an 08 6.4 need some advise

Hey everyone. I am looking to buy my first diesel and am stuck between two trucks.

Truck #1
08 350 drw lariat with 100,036m. I have looked at the carfax and had a service guy pull an oasis. This truck has already had a radiator replaced, Power steering pump replaced, injection pump nozzle replaced, steering gear, lower ball joints, a 2 wheel alignment done and the egr checked. Are these issues common with an 08? Since they have been fixed are they likely to happen again or could this one just be prone to having a lot of issues?

2002 350 srw lariat with 117000m This has a 7.3 obviously and from pictures everything seems to look pretty good( at a dealership 5 hours away)

This truck would be a work truck carrying about a 3000lb payload every day driving in the city. What do you guys think? Both are 2wd as well. Thanks in advance!

As much as I love my 08, I would have a really hard time passing up a low mileage 7.3 for a good price. Hell the way things are going right now that is probably a better investment than anything in the stock market.


And to answer your first question, the radiator was a common problem on most 08s due to a bad batch. The other problems are not common issues. If you take care of your truck and do routine maintenance I think the odds of those problems coming up again would be slim.

Thanks for the reply. I love the way the 08 lariat looks and it is even priced great from what I have seen (23500) which is what made me a little hesitant about the truck. I guess I am a little concerned since most of my driving would be in the city about the regen and what not. As much as I have heard great things about the 7.3 I also like the idea of having a 3 yr old truck versus a 9 yr old truck.

Would you guys hesitate about being an 08 with 100,036 miles that has had the issues listed above (23500)? I really need this truck to last as I am going to have a bunch of equipment mounted in the back. For comparison sake the 02 7.3 is priced at 19800.

After reading through a lot of posts there are many stories about the 08 being being in the shop. Would you say that is more the exception to the rule or is that pretty common? Thanks again
